Winemaker’s Notes - Kira Ballotta

The foundation of this beautiful white wine is the harmonious blend of three amazing vineyard sites. The Viognier hails from the famed Shake Ridge Ranch in Amador County, the Gewurztraminer is from 45 year old estate plantings on Olivet Rd in the Russian River Valley, and the 1 barrel of Chardonnay is from the Dry Creek AVA in Sonoma.

The wine enters with verbose aromatics of fresh honeysuckle flower, candied orange blossom and a touch of key lime pie. This wine brightens the palate with a high arc of acidity tempered by pleasing viscosity and a subtle creaminess. The only thing that would make this wine better is a plate full of freshly shucked Kumamoto oysters.

On this wine we get to blend three delicious sites into our vision of the perfect summer white wine…

But don’t take out word of it, here is the accolade published by Wine Enthusiast for the 2019 vintage - giving this wine a fantastic 92 Points:

“This crisp but substantive wine is packed with Pippin apple and Bosc pear flavors accented by floral and ginger notes. Blended from Viognier, Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay, it is well balanced and lively, but also shows outstanding depth and concentration. JIM GORDON

A BLEND OF EXCEPTIONAL CALIFORNIA VINEYARD SITES

The Viognier is from a site spanning two hillsides at Shake Ridge Ranch. The fruit at the top of the hillside is ripe and caramelized while the fruit in the valley is acidic and energetic. Vinified together brings complexity that compliments the Gewurztraminer’s citrus infusion and the Chardonnay’s creamy roundness.

A viticulture crescendo of Californian white wine…

Olivia’s Inspiration

This wine is an homage to Annette Kellerman (1887- 1975) who was a professional Olympic swimmer, vaudeville star, film actress, writer and business owner. Kellerman was famous for advocating the right of women to wear a hydrodynamic one-piece bathing suit instead of the then restrictive full pantaloons. In 1907, at the height of her popularity, Kellerman was arrested on Revere Beach in Massachusetts for indecency – she was wearing one of her fitted one-piece costumes.

Her resulting line of women’s swimwear, the “Annette Kellermans,” is the genesis of modern swimwear…
